1. Build a Strategy

In order to become successful on social media, you must first build a strategy. Set goals for what you want to achieve. Some cosmetologists want more clients per week, others want to sell more hair products. As an example, let’s say you want to obtain a certain amount of hair clients per month, one goal to help you achieve this can be posting 2 hair styling videos on Instagram per week. Whatever it is that you desire in your career, you should have a strategy that can take you there. Identify what you wish to achieve and create goals based on your desires.

2. Find a Platform That Works for your Strategy

Choose the platform where you can reach your target audience. Your target audience are the people that you want to attract to your business. For example, if you wanted to market a hair salon, your target audience would likely be women aged 18 to 60, and who live within your local area. like TikTok and Instagram are great choices because they have a wide user base and have great tools to showcase your work. These tools are completely free to use and allow you to connect with clients and industry professionals. Here are some of the features of TikTok, Facebook, and Instagram:

Instagram

• Great for sharing images.

• Wide range of users of all ages.

Ability to use Meta’s advertising tools and analytics.

• Great for sharing short form content in video format.

• Most popular among the Gen Z crowd and under 30.

• Algorithm features targeted results and local influence.

3. Trends

Everyone has heard of or seen some kind of trend on social media. They are especially popular on TikTok, but they exist on every social media site. Trends come and go, but they can attract a large amount of attention to your page. Seasonal trends are very popular in the beauty and fashion industry. For example, during holidays such as Halloween or Christmas, themed costume and makeup videos are popular. In addition, celebrities can also popularize trends. Constantly be on the lookout for new trends, and use them as inspiration for your content. On Instagram, take a look at the “For You” page. Here you will find trending posts that are relevant to you. See if anything stands out to you and take some inspiration.

4. Tips and Tricks

Hashtags & Geotags

• Hashtags and geotags are one of most established methods of getting attention from new clients.

• Use specific, targeted hashtags to narrow down audience. For example, instead of #nails, use #nailartchicago, or #nailtechniles. Research what hashtags are popular with your clients and use them in your posts.

• Just like hashtags, geotags appear when a user searches for the location you’re tagged in. Just by tagging your town/city name in your post, you could experience a huge boost in visibility.

Before and After

• Remember to take before and after photos/videos of your clients when doing services. These are one of the best ways to show potential clients your work and that you are the right person for the job.

• When servicing clients, ask their permission if you can take a photo/video of them. Make sure there is adequate lighting and ensure that your photos/videos are high quality. It’s important that the photos/videos are clear and showing the best angles.

• Before posting, make sure to review the photos/videos. Ensure they are to your liking and perform any necessary editing such as cropping or lighting adjustment. You can also edit your content into a reel, which look great when posted to Instagram. Be sure to follow all of the tips explained previously.

Advertising

Advertising your business can be a great way to attract more clients and attention to your brand. When choosing to launch an advertising campaign, its important that it aligns with your business strategy. If you’re considering advertising on Instagram or Facebook, Meta Business Suite offers a great tool for posting, managing, and analyzing your ad campaigns. You can set a budget for however amount you would like, so it’s very flexible. You can also set a geographic area for where the ads will be shown. This is important, so you’re only marketing your business to local customers. Most people searching for a beauty salon will want to go somewhere that’s close to home, not halfway across the country. Remember to use local hashtags and show your business location.

5. Be Consistent!

The most influential creators on social media post consistently and intentionally. When starting a new page for your brand, its important to create a posting schedule in order to become organized and stay on top of creating content. By scheduling your posts, you will become more organized and ensure that you are always providing new content to your followers.
