Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA)

The FERPA (Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act) is a federal law protecting the privacy of student education records. This program is applicable to all schools that receive funds under any program from the U.S Department of Education.

FERPA gives parents certain rights in regards to their child’s education records. These rights transfer to the student when he or she reaches the age of 18 or attends a school beyond the high school level. Students to whom the rights have transferred are “eligible students.” Schools use the FERPA as a way to verify that the student has consented to the release of their information, such as transcripts, diplomas, or any other academic documents which may need to be accessed by the school.

When enrolling at Rosel School of Cosmetology, you may be asked to sign a FERPA release form. One way we use the FERPA is to verify an applicant’s high school diploma information.

Eligible students have the right to view, release, and request to change their records that are maintained by the school. For more information about your rights as an “eligible student”, click here.
